The Induction Programme is designed to elevate undergraduate students’ information literacy and digital literacy capabilities. By providing essential knowledge and practical tools, it ensures that students can effectively navigate, evaluate, and use library resources. The induction includes an information session, a guided tour, and a hands-on workshop, offering a thorough overview of the library’s resources and services.
This module, an information session, will equip undergraduate students with comprehensive knowledge of library resources and services. It covers
● Conducting Information Search: Learn how to effectively use Find@HKUL, databases, and Google Scholar.
● Search Tips: Gain valuable tips for refining search queries and retrieving relevant information.
●
Academic Integrity: Understanding the importance of academic integrity and how to maintain it in your research.
● Digital Literacy: Learn about the support on AI literacy at the Libraries and digital tools available under HKU campus licenses, i.e. EndNote, HKU ChatGPT.
This module helps you to lay the foundations for a successful learning journey using the Libraries’ resources. It is highly recommended for all undergraduate students !
This tour is designed to familiarize newly enrolled students with the Main Library and branch libraries’ locations, as well as the various facilities and collections available for different study purposes.
It begins with a brief presentation covering the essentials of library facilities, services, and locations. Then participants will embark on a guided walk through the Main Library, gaining an up-close and personal experience of the various library study spaces, collections, and resources.

Library Treasure Hunt, “Secret Adventure of Library”, provides a fun way to explore the library! It is a perfect activity with classmates or friends. Not only will it get you out of the hall and into the stacks, but it can also help you discover some gems you may have never noticed.

This is an interactive, task-based hands-on workshop designed to equip students with essential skills for building effective search statements and evaluating information in today’s digital world. Through practical information search tasks, participants will learn to:

Establish effective search queries and statements

Distinguish between reliable and unreliable sources
●
Assess the credibility of information
In this 1-hour workshop, students will be divided into groups and work on tasks to develop search statements using appropriate keywords, operators, and filters, as well as navigate and utilize a variety of information sources, including but not limited to search engines, databases, and Generative AI, i.e., HKU ChatGPT. Students are expected to work, analyze, and reflect on their answers by presenting via the Miro board ( https://miro.com/).
Important note: please bring along with your personal laptop for working on the tasks during the workshop.
